Shane meadows tends to make very gritty kitchen sick films an even though he makes full length films he still like to
continues making short films

steal away

Steal Away started with the style of a crime genre an as if it was a bank heist the title of the story was on money which keep to the style of the film there was also upbeat music which added to the genre. As all short film does it jump straight you straight to the climax

The POV of the camera makes the audience feel as if there apart of the film the camera moves in a fast past and focus on one subject to another

There is a POV from the driver then female protagonist
then the move meant slows down and there is a exaggerates gun shot noise this challenges   the audience view as they are left wondering who got shot there is also a close up on her expression when this happens which may suggest that she going out the male protagonist she also had a tattoo which may suggest she is a rebel

As the film goes on and the two protagonist open the brief case there is an explosion of read ink this could symbolise sin as they had stolen the money it could also be passion and danger

As they get on the train there ironically is a priest preaching an a man cleaning people feet this could link to the read in the brief case as this may be a biblical reference to when Jesus washed the people feet to cleanse them of there sins deeper on there journey on the train the light flicks on and off when the male protagonist is 'cleansed of his earlier sin an that he has been forgiven

The story truly unravels at the end as it becomes clear that the male protagonist has died, this makes the audience think about all that they just watched an make them think about there own life’s this conventional of short film as it has a messages.

Horny

Horny is short 6 min film about a women an her view of the tube an how it makes her horny the film follows the conventions of a short film as it has controversial subject which is taken to be funny thought the film. The girl play the narrator an is talking straight to the audience about her thoughts which keeps the audiences attention and makes them feel like there. There’re a lot of shots of the people reactions like  the man who is getting a hard one. thought out the film she is the only one who has any dialogue until the end .the music in the back is fast an up tempo to keep to the past of the music it is also the same music which is in steal away which is odd as they have two different types of story however it works for them both

The Bouncer

I thought that ‘ the bouncer ‘ was a very effective film with a message and had some humour to it , I thought the way the story was told was the most effective as  you feel like he talking you and  telling you and telling you his story .

The story is told at a fast paste which keeps the audience engaged an trying to keep up  however it does stop to make you think about what was just said an make you put yourself in a bouncers shoes, this conforms to the conventions of a short film as it has a messages which gets the audience thinking.

I like the use of freeze frames as they are used at the most gripping parts of the story when the guy pulls out a knife an the audience get worried I think that that a good editing techniques.

At the end when the other bouncer is killed that is the only part of the film with no dialogue

About a Girl

Written / presented in text this shows you the audience the story is aimed at it also has    non deject sound of text as if someone is texting the title. There is also a connection to about a boy

We are first introduced to a seilottes of a girl singing alone in a field, this enables the audience see her innocents as she is singing Brittney spears stronger this makes her relatable to young girls however we wonder why such a young girl is alone in a park.

When the audience are introduced to her she has a hard extrea which is a contrast when she was singing , she is very naive as she believes that being a singer is top “ if god was alive he would be a singer” she also thinks that a baracisd breezer is a ‘ top drink’

Even thought she is only 13 she believe that she’s no a kid and that she is ‘grownShe is very ‘kitchen sink’ as she is seen to be  Stereotypical girl who looks like she lives in a council estate who has had a hard life and both mum and dad don’t care and have split up,

The audience can see that she has a very forces relationship with her dad and he is portrayed as a dead beat dad for example she stands on the side line why her dad pays football this may also represent her in her  dads life ‘ on the side line’ ‘not important’
And when her dad is in the pub she is outside this shows her independents however she is sat singing Britney spears stronger which once again shows her innocents  an shows the relationship between her and he dad
When she it with her friends on the bus we see her innocents as she  is on the bus  singing with her friends, with is typically of what 13 year old girls would do.
When she is walking down the street even though she is talking into the camera it looks as if she is talking and walking by  herself an saying her trail of thoughts an every time the camera changes the context of what she says changes by the camera doing this it shows how chatty she is.
When she starts to give a insiste into her life an when she talks about her mother you sense that she has some hostity in her voice as she call her mum a TIGHT BITCH because her mum is hard on her  an that she favours her dad because when she talks about her dad shoving an ice cream in her mums face she doesn’t seem remorseful this also shows that they may have been domestic violence in their household
Both her and her mum want to escape the life they live as her mum is always buying lottery tickets and she want to see a singer ,
She then goes on to tell her dad that she has run away an unlike a responable father she say there’s no space for her at his this shows that she is not a main protiy in his life
For the first time in the film the girl is silence an there is a over the head shot of her looking into the river after she talks about her mum throwing the puppy in the river after the puse she then goes on to say that she become good at hiding thing from her mum an then throws a white plastics bag into the river an then walks off an contries talking about her 99 ice cream

The audience then see that inside the bag was her baby an that she has no remorse for what she has done and has become a prousct of her invroment an is acting just like her mum wen her mum trow the puppy in the river
The plastic bag could repsent her and the baby’s innocents as it it white and also represents the baby coming out head first

We then realise that she has no identy  an her life has become a vicious cycle an she has become her mum
