Short film- prey
l liked this short film as I think it followed the conventions of a short film as it told a story it was relatable had a niche audience small cast an unknown actors I think by it having unknown actors made the story more relatable to the everyday girl. They also had a narrator who told her story and the then there were flash backs of what she was talking about and then it went back to her so the audience were able to see her reaction as she tells her story. I think that the camera shots were quite effective and help with the gradual tension because you don’t see the burse on her until she gets to that point in the story.

short film an mainstream
My expectations of shorts films were very similar to what the conventions of a short film should be
• Low budget
• Tells a story
• Contrervasail
• Niche audience
• Fiction/non fiction
• Small cast
• Entertain
• Screened in cinemas before feature
• Reality
• Used for purpose
Short films are very different to mainstream films as they so not follow the conventions ways of which a film should be made
• Known actors
• Big budget
• Longer to make
• Shown everywhere
• Glamour
• Builds to the climax
• Larger cast
• Low budget
• Tells a story

Conventions of short films
• Abstract
• Unknown actors
• Low budget
• Quicker to make
• Shown mainly online
• Nitty gritty
• Realism
• Straight to the point(jumps straight to the story line)
• Won’t follow the conventions of a main stream film
• Break the rules
• Unconventional way of storytelling

skin deep
Skin deep by yusif ali khan
Skin deep by yusif ali khan
Skin deep if a short film that doesn’t follow the convention of a short film as it has unknown actors which makes the film more relatable as this film is very controversial an raises many racial issue which help to raise awareness of the issues. This film uses shock tactics to grab the audience.
The story is quick passed as we are thrown straight in where the film begins which an Asian boy looking in the mirror an the opening line he say ‘ hey u Paki u fuckin Paki’ this makes the audience question the boys race as you couldn’t say racist comment about you own race
Title which is skin deep which could be taken from the quote beauty is only skin deep. Which lets the audience no that this film is about self persecution an how we see our selves as well as others
As the film continues we see that he shorten his name to Romo an doesn’t like this birth name as it is a Paki name an takes back alleys so people who support the national fount don’t see him with his sister as she looks more Asian than he does therefore he lets her walk and take rascal abuse by herself which shows that is a coward who is ashamed of his back ground
the audience always see Romo looking into the mirror flatting his hair trying to change his image an look ‘ white ‘ he also uses slag words like you ‘ite mate’ which would also suggest that is what to hid where he comes from
when Romo is in the pub with his work mates there is a short reverse short of him and one of the boys looking at him an you see worry an fear in his face , as if he doesn’t want them to no his secret an he wonders if they already no
he also has that same look on this face we n one of this mates say ‘ ah Romo you look like you could have some Paki in you ‘ however he confront the situation by taking the Mick out of how an Asian would speak ‘ you calling me a Paki you calling me fuckin Paki’ he does this to get an approval from this friends he also go on to shout abuse to another Asian due to per pressure of his ‘friends’ an wanting to fit in
the end of the film is the most hard hitting as this is when the film has reached it climax and the audience an really supervisee for him even though he has abandoned his race an belief to fit it in this scene Romo viciously cut off all his hair to have a ‘skin head’ while shouting verbal abuse to him self an the audience can see the mental damage Romo has been going though
there are a number of flash backs to show Romo’s past an this give the audience an incite in to why he has happened this way and show the audience that he has no become the people he once hated in order to fit in
There is Pathetic Fallacy in this film as there is a lot of low key lighting an it is very ‘real’ an gritty this could show how Romo is feeling inside .
